Today North Korea–Tomorrow Iran

Can Israel trust Vice President Joe Biden’s March 9 promise to Prime Minister Netanyahu and the people of Israel that America “will act” if Iran violates the nuclear deal?

Dr. Peter Vincent Pry

The Obama administration’s willful blindness to the present nuclear missile threats emanating almost daily from North Korea is a “teaching moment” on how President Obama–and any future Democrat administration that supports Obama’s nuclear deal–will respond to nuclear missile threats from Iran.

Denial.  Obfuscation.  Impotence.  This is how President Obama is reacting to the fact that North Korea is a fully fledged nuclear missile state.  No doubt it is how President Obama, or a future President Hillary Clinton or President Bernie Sanders–who also support the Joint Comprehensive Plan Of Action (JCPOA)–will react when Iran reveals to the world that it too is a nuclear missile power.

North Korea has conducted four overt nuclear tests, the last possibly of a hydrogen bomb.  All of these nuclear tests are illegal violations of the Non-Proliferation Treaty, to which North Korea once subscribed in order to acquire its nuclear infrastructure.

Of great significance for the case of Iran, North Korea’s nuclear tests are flagrant violations of the Agreed Framework.  The Agreed Framework is not an official treaty with the U.S. but an agreement concluded with President Bill Clinton under his executive authority–exactly the same unconstitutional basis for President Obama’s nuclear deal with Iran.

North Korea has conducted numerous illegal missile tests violating United Nations resolutions.

Two of North Korea’s illegal missile tests have orbited satellites over the United States.  North Korea’s KSM-3 and KSM-4 satellites fly on a south polar trajectory that evades U.S. National Missile Defenses and at the optimum altitude, if the satellites contained nuclear warheads, for  exo-atmospheric detonations that would generate an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) that could blackout most of North America for months or years.

The Congressional EMP Commission warned that a nationwide blackout lasting one year could kill 90 percent of the U.S. population from starvation and societal collapse.

So, how is President Obama reacting to North Korea’s illegal missile tests, illegal nuclear tests, and apparently practicing a nuclear EMP attack that could kill 9 of 10 Americans?

Denial.  President Obama denies that North Korea has nuclear armed missiles.

Obfuscation.  President Obama and his State Department claim that North Korea has not yet demonstrated that they can make a nuclear weapon “miniaturized” so it is small enough to be delivered by a missile.

Yet miniaturizing a nuclear warhead is easy to do, compared to building nuclear weapons in the first place and developing multi-stage missiles that can orbit satellites, which North Korea demonstrably has done.  North Korean dictator Kim Jong-Un recently posed for a press photo with one of his miniaturized nuclear warheads– and promised to missile flight-test a nuclear warhead.

Impotence.  President Obama pleaded with Russia and China to gain their approval for tougher sanctions against North Korea, even though sanctions have never worked against the North, and Russia and China both violate existing sanctions anyway.  Obama has imposed additional financial and banking sanctions by executive order, which former U.S. representative to the UN John Bolton and others rightly dismiss as trivial, in part because the U.S. has not done business with North Korea since 1953.

Obama has ignored advice from senior national security officials of the Clinton, Bush, and Reagan administrations that he undertake against North Korea more muscular measures–including surgical strikes or interceptions to stop illegal missile launches; hardening the U.S. grid against nuclear EMP attack; and strengthening missile defenses by reviving President Reagan’s Strategic Defense Initiative, that is credited by many with winning the Cold War, and could render nuclear missiles obsolete. Obama rejects all of these prudent measures to defend the American people against the existential threat posed by nuclear missiles from North Korea.

President Obama’s head is buried so deeply in the sand that he will not heed warnings from his own Department of Defense and Intelligence Community that North Korea does, in fact, have nuclear armed missiles that threaten the United States–right now.

For example, on October 8, 2015,  the North American Aerospace Defense (NORAD) Commander, Admiral William Gortney–whose job is to protect the U.S. from missile threats–warned the Atlantic Council: “I agree with the intelligence community that we assess that they [the North Koreans] have the ability, they have the weapons, and they have the ability to miniaturize those weapons, and they have the ability to put them on a rocket that can range the [U.S.] homeland.”

Likewise, the 2015 Defense Department report “Military and Security Developments Involving the Democratic People’s Republic of North Korea” warns that North Korea now has intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) that can make nuclear strikes against the U.S. mainland.

So, can Israel trust Vice President Joe Biden’s March 9 promise to Prime Minister Netanyahu and the people of Israel that America “will act” if Iran violates the nuclear deal?

Senior national security officials of the Clinton, Bush, and Reagan administrations have warned repeatedly that Iran is already in violation of the nuclear deal, that Iran is already a nuclear missile state, like its strategic partner–North Korea.

“We assess, from UN International Atomic Energy Agency reports and other sources, that Iran probably already has nuclear weapons. Over thirteen years ago, prior to 2003, Iran was manufacturing nuclear weapon components, like bridge-wire detonators and neutron initiators, performing non-fissile explosive experiments of an implosion nuclear device, and working on the design of a nuclear warhead for the Shahab-III missile. Thirteen years ago Iran was already a threshold nuclear missile state. It is implausible that Iran suspended its program for over a decade for a nuclear deal with President Obama. Iran probably has nuclear warheads for the Shahab-III medium-range missile, which they tested for making EMP attacks.”  So write Ambassador R. James Woolsey (former Director of the CIA), Dr. William Graham (President Reagan’s Science Advisor, director of NASA, and Chairman of the Congressional EMP Commission), Ambassador Henry Cooper (former Director of the Strategic Defense Initiative), and Fritz Ermarth (former Chairman of the National Intelligence Council) in National Review (February 12, 2016).

For Israel, there is a vitally important lesson to be learned from President Obama’s ongoing nuclear missile crisis with North Korea.  If Democrats control the White House, in any present or future nuclear missile crisis with Iran–Israel is on its own.
